Lawn!

Yes, we have achieved lawn. It's a bit scraggly, there are some morning glories that need to go away, and it's in dire need of edging... but it's a lawn!

Revel in the green lushness of my yard. Marvel at the change from dirt to grass. Be amazed! Yes, I am thrilled about grass. This is the most excitement I get lately. Enjoy!

Front yard update

Oh so slowly, grass is growing. I have to water 3 times a day, especially now that it's getting warmer. I have to set alarms on my phone, or I will forget and my poor grass will dry up. So far, it's working well. [caption id="attachment_493" align="aligncenter" width="600" caption="Slowly growing grass"]

[/caption] All the white specks you see in the dirt are elm seeds. The trees here are going nuts. My allergies haven't been too bad (I'm allergic to elm trees, of course), but I've spent most of my time inside. I will be glad when they are finished with whatever it is trees do to reproduce. I also hope that the grass grows faster than the baby elm trees, and I can mow before the entire yard is taken over by elms. I'm constantly hacking down elms that get established along the foundation of my house. It's damn near impossible to get rid of them... I chop them down, and they just come back. Roundup only seems mildly effective. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to comment. I'm really beginning to hate them.

Updates

Just realized I was missing a few final updates, so I'll fill you in. Clyde went to go stay with his owner's cousin last Friday. He was a great dog to get to know; if I didn't already have a houseful of pets, he would have been an awesome dog to have. It was hard to have him here, though... Apollo didn't want him near us, and would park himself on the floor so he was between Clyde and us. I couldn't let Clyde off the leash in the house, because he thought cats were something to chase. If I'd had time, I could have trained him not to do it, but I knew he wasn't going to be here for long. I really enjoyed having him here, though. He was a gentleman, and just a super sweet dog. Good luck, Clyde and family!

The swamp cooler was finally installed last week, and that made me VERY happy. The guys who came out (to replace the guy who couldn't be bothered to show up) were polite, professional, and wonderful to have here. The installed the cooler, fixed a few problems we didn't know we had (oops, broken water line), and were very reasonably priced. My recommendation, if you live in the area: AWR Maintenance are great handymen. We will definitely call them again. Great work, guys.

The swamp cooler was really nice this past week. It got a bit warm around here. Of course, it's been cold and icky the past few days, but summer is on the way. We'll definitely get our money's worth out of this. Oh.. thanks, Mom and Dad, for paying for the installation. That was a big help. That's been our excitement here. My son and his wife came out for the weekend, which was very nice. We really had a nice visit, and it was very relaxing and fun. I'll post pictures of our drive up the Monument later; I still need to pull them off the little camera.

Tulips in bloom

One thing that survived the culling of the yard was one solitary tulip plant over by the fence. As I went outside this morning to go to the store, I noticed it was in bloom.

What a gorgeous flower! I love spring. It's my favorite season. It's not too hot, not too cold, and everything is in bloom.
