Snow and stuff

I’m sitting here in my living room this morning, trying to blog, but nothing is coming to mind. What to talk about? Those of you who blog, how do you decide your subject matter? I’ve just been staring out the window, watching big fat flakes of snow falling out of a grey sky… and that’s all that I can think about.

It’s been a good morning so far. The dogs and I went to the open space park on the other side of the river, and they got to chase the ball until they were exhausted. We have a Chuckit! Ball Launcher (shameless plug, this is the best $15 I ever spent on a dog toy), and I can throw the ball 50 yards without hurting myself, so they get a real workout. I couldn’t keep up with them otherwise. After they were exhausted, I went to the grocery store and bought a few things. Is it just me, or is toilet paper getting really freaking expensive? Probably because I don’t buy the cheap stuff. I’m spoiled. Then we came home. This is my life. Boring, slow, and we don’t get much done, but it is what it is.

The dogs have collapsed on the floor since we’ve been home; Ares is back in the bedroom in his “spot”, and Apollo is laying right next to my computer chair having happy doggy dreams.

Some days I really envy the animals in this house.

Ahh, that’s better

The dishes are done, the kitchen is clean, and my bed is made.  Yes, Shiva decided to remove himself from the bed for a few minutes.  Here is a picture of him resting on the way to the food bowl.

‘Scuse the carpet, it gets vacuumed tomorrow.  Six animals can generate a metric ton of hair each week.  It’s a never ending job.

In my last post I mentioned Ares’ eye.  We still don’t know what happened to him, but his eyelid really started to get red about a week ago.  Then it started swelling… really puffing out big.  When it got down to his muzzle, we decided to take him to the vet Friday morning.  Poor guy looked like he’d gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson.

The vet looked at him and thought he saw a foxtail inside of his eyelid, so we left him there to be sedated and checked.  Well, the vet didn’t find anything in there, but he did have an ulcer on his eye, and the swelling was just huge.  So, he sent him home with some antibiotics and some eye gel stuff for lubrication and pain relief.

I am so glad that Ares is such a good pill taker.  No arguing with him, just tip his head back and pop the pill in his mouth.  He gets treats afterwards, so he looks forward to that.  So does Apollo, because I give him treats as well.  Anyway… it’s been nearly a week, and most of the swelling is gone.  I can’t take him for walks yet, because he wears a headcollar, and that would hurt!

Apollo really wants to go somewhere.  This is him barking at me to take him somewhere.  He gets really excited when he thinks he’s leaving the house.  Next week we can go, I’m sure Ares will be better by then.

Now I can relax, have some lunch, and hang out on the computer guilt free for the rest of the day.  Well, at least until Will gets home, I promised him some World of Warcraft time after he does his homework.

Back home.

If you have been following my posts on Facebook, I’ve been out of town since Friday, in a quaint little town called Naturita.  SMALL town.  Very nice people, and I enjoyed our stay.  Brian had work near there, and I decided to tag along so he wouldn’t be lonely. ;)

I have a few pictures over on Facebook that I took with my Blackberry, let me see if I can grab a few…

Naturita

Cute little town, eh?  Yeah, that’s it.  The whole town.  I was a bit bored, but I got caught up on some of my reading.  The doggers and I spent quite a bit of time hanging out, too.  Lots of places to take them to go running.

Oh… if you’re wanting an updated on the medical condition… there isn’t one.  Every test comes back normal.  Hopefully the doc will call me this week and we can figure out where to go from there.

Weekend.

We’re at Brian’s parents’ house borrowing their wifi for a few minutes, and I figured I’d drop in for a quick update. Kitties are all good, and so are the dogs. The temperatures here have dropped a few degrees and we had a lovely thunderstorm last night. Ares woke me up when it started… poking me with his paw to tell me, “MOM! The thunder is scary!” Poor guy. I made him lay down next to the bed and he calmed down.

We’re off taking a drive this afternoon. Brian is taking me up to the top of Grand Mesa, and I’ll be taking pictures. I’ll post the good ones here. I just hope it’s not too scary driving up there.

Ok, time to head out, I’ll update sometime in the next few days with pictures!

Walking the dogs

Part of my “routine” here is taking the dogs out for a walk every morning. They’re loving walking off leash in the hayfield. It’s beautiful in the mornings, but I just need to remember to spray myself with mosquito repellent or they bite me like crazy.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I love it. Open fields with the Colorado National Monument in the background. There is a dirt road that goes around the field, so we just walk down that. Plenty of things for the boys to find and sniff.

Gotta watch out for those scary butterflies, you know. They might attack.

I think once the weather cools off I’m really going to enjoy it here. Lots of great photo targets, space for the dogs to run… good stuff!

Update!

Yes, I’m still alive.  Currently, sitting at the local coffee shop borrowing their wifi and having a latte.  We have successfully made the transition to Grand Junction, and are staying with Brian’s grandparents.  We’ve had a couple more snafus with the house, but things are still on track to close on the 12th.  Here’s hoping!

Well, it’s hot here.  HOT.  It’s been over 100 nearly ever day that I’ve been here this week, and I am NOT used to those temperatures anymore.  Bayfield is nice and cool by comparison.  I am liking the access to shops and stuff, but the temperatures will definitely take some getting used to.

The cats are doing ok, except for Ozzy… poor guy is just freaked out by the whole thing.  Karma and Shiva are staying at Brian’s parents’ house, and they’ve settled in quite nicely.  Alley and Ozzy are at the kennel, and of course Alley Cat is a regular trooper.  She doesn’t seem to mind at all.  Poor Ozzy, on the other hand, was traumatized by the drive, and is just not happy about anything.  I’ve been visiting them both every day, and we got him to come out of his box for a bit on Saturday morning, but he pretty much hides the whole time.  I’ll be so glad to get them all back into our house.

The dogs are fine… they’re getting along with Buck (grandparents’ dog) and really enjoying the opportunity to run full speed across 10 acres of hayfield.  We go out for a walk every morning, and they’re loving it.  I’ll be glad to get them back into a fenced yard, though. No fence and a rural highway make for flat dogs, so I keep them inside unless we’re walking.  I don’t want flat dogs.

Currently on the agenda for me is finding a part-time job and getting my business set up.  Logo design is in process, and as soon as that is done I can order business cards and make flyers.  I’m thinking I’m going to target small business IT services… driving to businesses is a lot cheaper than setting up a shop, and I’m all for lower overhead.  I’m really not going to make a push for anything until we get into the house, though… mostly because I don’t want to have to leave the dogs at the grandparents’ house.  They’re good boys, but it’s not fair to ask them to watch them all the time.

So… that’s what I’ve been up to.  I’ll post on here as often as I can, but we have no internet where we’re staying.  That means whenever I can get out and get wifi for my laptop, AND remember to post, I’ll keep everyone updated.

Finally, because I’ve been horribly lax, here is the Monday Happy List!

  1. A coffee shop with free wifi!
  2. Watching the dogs bound through the hayfield with big smiles.
  3. Seeing the preliminary sketches for my logo and LOVING them.
  4. New sunglasses
  5. New clothes that are affordable, cute, and DON’T make me look fat!

See you all later, I’ll try to update soon!

Monday Happy List

Yay! It’s Monday!  That means it’s time for another Happy List. :)

Here, in no particular order, are five things that make me happy.

  1. We close on our house on the 29th.  Yay!
  2. Packing nearing completion.
  3. A clean kitchen
  4. Doggies who are good boys and listen to me when I tell them to stop barking at every damn thing that walks past. ;)
  5. Fajitas for dinner.  Yum.

There you have it… five things that are currently making me quite happy.  More updates to come, and possibly… knitting!  We shall see.   I have buried myself in housework and reading and have been ignoring my computer AND my knitting for the past few weeks.  Maybe I’ll get a chance to get some knitting done this week, since I’ll be spending some time at my LYS.

I’ll try to update tomorrow afternoon.  Really. :)

Waiting to move.

I hate waiting.  I swear, I am the most impatient person I know.  Right up until the moment the decision gets made, I’m fine.  Once the decision is made, I want action.  Now.  Quickly.

Unfortunately, we don’t close on the house until the 29th, and can’t move in until August 2nd, so I have to wait.  I’m not good at this.  Brian will be heading out this weekend to start his new job, and I’m going to be staying here until the end of the month to finish packing and cleaning.  The majority of our stuff is already moved and in storage, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

We finally got the chance to look at the house on Sunday (yes, we made an offer on a house we’d never seen), and I really like it.  It’s not big, but it’s cute, and well laid out.  Plenty of room for cats and dogs, with a big backyard for the dogs to play.  There is privacy fencing and a covered patio… I can see lots of barbeques and relaxing outside.  I didn’t take any pictures, as it’s still occupied and I didn’t want to be rude, but he’re a few from the listing.

Outside

This is the front from the street… all of the sunflowers are a bit overgrown, and I’m going to pull them out and probably put roses there.  Or a tree.  I’m trying to talk Brian into a weeping willow, but he hates the little tiny leaves.

Kitchen

The kitchen is tiny, but pretty well laid out, with a decent amount of storage.  The laundry room is right through that door, with plenty of room for cat boxes.  Yay!

Covered Patio

This is the cute little covered patio.. I love it out here.  I’m going to add some trellises and wisteria.  I’m really going to enjoy this a lot. :)

Anyway… more pictures when we close, I promise!

Where to live… hmm.

Well, we’ve headed to Grand Junction on an exploratory trip, and of course, nobody will rent to us with six animals.  Woe!  I don’t want to try to buy a house on the spur of the moment… that’s something we really want to take our time with.  So, the solution that has presented itself is to buy an RV (5th wheel) and live in it until we pay it off, then find a house to buy.

What is going to be entertaining is living in a 30′-35′ RV with four cats.  We haven’t definitely decided on this course of action, but the more we talk about it, the more it seems like the right option.  Especially since we have to move next week.

Wish us luck. :D
