Out and about today

Short update:

Down to 150mg of Lyrica a day, and the mood swings have died down quite a bit. I also have a lot of my brain function again. Unfortunately, the pain is back. I has a sad. I was hoping we could kill the mood swings and keep the pain relief, but it doesn’t look like it. I’ll report back to my rheumatologist on Thursday, and we’ll see what happens.

I’m out and about today, so I don’t have time for a full post. Here’s something to make you laugh a bit. This cat looks just like Ozzy.

My (not so) interesting day.

Not much going on today.  It’s been pretty quiet so far.

I called my rheumatologist this morning — I’ve been having some side effects from the Lyrica that are pretty hard to deal with.  I was able to deal the with zombie brain for the first week, but now it’s causing mood swings and depression.  That is not good.  The zombie brain is about 80% better — I can’t call it completely better, but I can think again.  Mostly.

The mood swings?  Yikes.  I picked a fight with Brian yesterday over the difference between marinara sauce and spaghetti sauce.  Yes, I agree with you, that’s a stupid thing to fight about.  Once I realized that, I spent the next 3 hours crying about it, as well as crying about any other random thing.  I can NOT live like that.  PMS forever?  No thanks.

Brian has been amazingly supportive throughout all of this, which is amazing.  I would have killed me by now.

Anyway… I called the rheumatologist first thing this morning, and talked to the nurse there.  She was amazing.  Very supportive and just all around wonderful.  We’re going to take me down to half the dosage on the Lyrica, and if the symptoms don’t get any better we may switch me to Savella.  I’ve heard good and bad about it, but one of the tings I’ve heard is that it really helps the brain fog, too.  Well, here’s hoping something works, without too many side effects.  Some side effects I can handle.  Crying all day is not one of them.

The rest of my day has mostly been spend lazing around the house.  Not too many dishes, no laundry to speak of, and there were too many cats on my bed for me to make it up without disturbing them.  They all looked to comfortable to move.  So, I surfed the net and read for a bit.  Thank bob for the interwebs, they keep me amused. ;)

Sorry about yesterday…

Well, yesterday was full of fail.

I spent part of the morning on the computer just goofing around, and then sometime after lunch, WHAM!  I could barely walk, nausea, dizzy, etc.  Of course, the first thing Brian asks me is, “Are you pregnant?”  Funny guy.  I spent about 30 minutes dozing in bed, then got up and sat on the couch and read for a while.  Told the boys to fend for themselves for dinner, because me cooking was just not going to happen.

I feel a lot better this morning, other than a serious knot in my right shoulder.  Dishes are done, laundry is washed, and the cats are happily sleeping on the bed.  As you can see, they were incredibly helpful while I was putting the laundry away.

Next project for the day… bread.  Can she do it without messing up?  Nobody knows!

Nap attack.

Ok, I have no idea what to blog about today, so you get more rambling.  Aren’t you excited?

Not a bad day today… went to breakfast with Brian’s parents, and had a good time.  We came home, I played World of Warcraft for a bit (my new baby paladin is up to level 31!) until somebody sneaked up behind me and flipped my off switch.  I mean seriously… happily playing one minute, the next minute I’m heading for the inn with my head down on my desk trying to keep my eyes open.  WTF is up with that?

I logged out and let Will use the computer, and I made my way back to bed.  I hate it when that total exhaustion sneaks up on you like that.  I moved Shiva out of the way (Shiva is always in the way) so I could lay down, and then Brian started to tell me stuff about what he was doing in game.  I tried sooo hard to pay attention, and then I was just out.  Brian woke me up a bit later to tell me I’d been sleeping for an hour and a half, and I just completely ignored him.  What’s funny is that my brain heard him say ten hours, but I was still thinking “So?”, and I went back to sleep.  He finally woke me up after about 3 hours… 6pm and I had to get up and fix dinner.

I was still tired when I got up, and rather brain damaged as well.  Dinner was a challenge.  Breaded pork chops and smashed potatoes, it should have been easy.  I couldn’t remember for the life of me how long to cook the pork chops.  We had the potatoes done way before the chops, so they got a bit dried out.  They were still yummy, though.

Here is a picture of Shiva being in the way.

For some reason, he feels the need to lay on whatever article of clothing you put on the bed.  This particular article is Brian’s jeans.  Notice all the fur on the bed?  I blame Alley Cat and Karma, since all that fur seems to be black.  I really need to get in there with a lint brush and get it off, but I am lazy.

Ahh, that’s better

The dishes are done, the kitchen is clean, and my bed is made.  Yes, Shiva decided to remove himself from the bed for a few minutes.  Here is a picture of him resting on the way to the food bowl.

‘Scuse the carpet, it gets vacuumed tomorrow.  Six animals can generate a metric ton of hair each week.  It’s a never ending job.

In my last post I mentioned Ares’ eye.  We still don’t know what happened to him, but his eyelid really started to get red about a week ago.  Then it started swelling… really puffing out big.  When it got down to his muzzle, we decided to take him to the vet Friday morning.  Poor guy looked like he’d gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson.

The vet looked at him and thought he saw a foxtail inside of his eyelid, so we left him there to be sedated and checked.  Well, the vet didn’t find anything in there, but he did have an ulcer on his eye, and the swelling was just huge.  So, he sent him home with some antibiotics and some eye gel stuff for lubrication and pain relief.

I am so glad that Ares is such a good pill taker.  No arguing with him, just tip his head back and pop the pill in his mouth.  He gets treats afterwards, so he looks forward to that.  So does Apollo, because I give him treats as well.  Anyway… it’s been nearly a week, and most of the swelling is gone.  I can’t take him for walks yet, because he wears a headcollar, and that would hurt!

Apollo really wants to go somewhere.  This is him barking at me to take him somewhere.  He gets really excited when he thinks he’s leaving the house.  Next week we can go, I’m sure Ares will be better by then.

Now I can relax, have some lunch, and hang out on the computer guilt free for the rest of the day.  Well, at least until Will gets home, I promised him some World of Warcraft time after he does his homework.

Guest Room Complete!

Only now it’s not the guest room, it’s my son’s room. My fifteen-year-old son is coming to live with us and go to school here. Having him in the big city was not the best environment, so we talked him into coming out here and giving small town a try. He’ll be here at least a year, I’m hoping he’ll be here through high school.

So anyway… here is what I started with:

And this is what we have now (complete with cat approval):

What a difference!  I really like the room.  Even the mats/frames on the pictures match the walls, and that was completely unintentional.  I still need to do a few more things, like refinish the bed frame and get a proper nightstand, but it’s looking very cozy.  The cats love it, I haven’t been able to get Shiva off the bed since I set it up.

Oh, in case you’re wondering about Alley Cat’s back, we had to shave her mats off.  She was VERY grumpy, and she feels a lot better now.

Guest Room… Progress!

Well, here it is, May 20th, two full months after I started this project.  I’ve only been feeling well enough the last few days to take another stab at it.  The “circus wall” has been covered with one coat of paint, and the room no longer offends my eyes.  The trick is going to be finishing before my son gets here for the summer… in one month.  Yikes!

Here are the progress photos:

Masking

The window, blue wall, and the carpet have all been masked off. Isn’t that wall lovely? (Blech)

Ozzy Helping

Ozzy is helping. He loves the masking paper.

Edges

Here I’ve painted all the edges with a paintbrush. I really wish I could have masked the ceiling, but it has that “popcorn” finish and tape just refuses to stay attached. I also attacked the wall in a few places where I’d patched holes to make sure they were filled in completely. It looks like someone came and played with mud all over the wall now.

First Coat

The first coat is complete! You can still see some of the striping under the paint (though you can’t really see it in this picture), so I will be adding another coat in a few hours… or maybe tomorrow. I hurt like hell already from doing this much, I don’t know how much I want to push myself today. I overdid it yesterday and am paying for it today. I’d really like to be able to get out of bed in the morning.

So, I have made progress. My goal is to have the bedroom complete by the end of the second week of June. By complete, I mean painted, furniture in, linens on the bed, and curtains hung. I should probably put the blinds back up, too. I could probably buy cheaper curtains if I have blinds on the window. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this room is going to turn out. Hopefully it looks as good in reality as it does in my imagination.

Guest room upgrade

Well, my youngest will be here in June to stay for the summer, so it’s time to start on the guest room.  It’s currently rather scary, with one wall painted in pink and orange stripes (no, I didn’t do that, it came that way… along with about 50 plastic flowers nailed to the wall).  I really wanted to do something different with this room, so we’re really taking the plunge and going dark.  William would have loved it if we would have painted it black, but I just didn’t want to go there.  Black is just… no.

We did choose a fairly dark grey for the main room color.

Test Color

The grey wall in the front is my “test wall”, and I like the color a lot.  It’s Behr’s “Dark Ash” (770F-5, if you’re wondering).  You can see the circus wall in the background.  That definitely needs to go.

Accent Wall - Start

This is the wall that I will be painting in the accent color (Behr’s “Rain Storm”, 530F-7).  This is patched and ready for paint.

Accent Wall - First Coat

This is the first coat of the accent color.  The circus wall looks really hideous now.  This will definitely need another coat, since it’s over a fairly glossy white.  I suppose I could have used a dark primer, but the good primer cost more than the paint.  A second coat is just as easy.  Oh, the paint in the picture will dry flat, the gloss is because the paint is still wet in this picture.

That other wall is going to give me nightmares.  I think it’ll be the first one painted in the grey, then I won’t have to look at it anymore.  All the trim in the room will be in the blue, and I’m going to paint the bed and the bookcase in blue as well.  I’m thinking a light sandstone(ish) color for the curtains and bedding, but that won’t come until much later.

I’m going to try to get the second coat on this wall today, then work on it some more tomorrow.  I’m aching pretty bad right now, but I hate stopping when I’m not through.
