My own handspun yarn!

I went down to my LYS today to get a spinning lesson from my friend Linda, who owns the shop. Ok, it’s a bit fiddly, and it took me a little bit to get the hang of it… but I made yarn! Lookie!

My Handspun Yarn

My very own first handspun yarn. I am all proud of myself and stuff. *strut*

Seriously.. I’m really enjoying this, and I’m planning on spinning up that whole batch of churro that I bought this weekend. Linda is going to bring her spinning wheel to the shop tomorrow for the Friday “Stitch and Bitch”, and I’ll see if I can play with that for a bit.

Fun!  Now I just need to figure out what I’m going to do with it once I spin it. :D

  1. Congrats on entering a whole new world of creative expression (as well as potentially expensive equipment and accessories). I’ve only tried spindling to ply some really superfine coned yarn. Didn’t work well, but I enjoyed the experince. There’s nothing like finding a new way to enjoy fiber, right? Instead of being fiddly, I’d say your yarn has “character”, and that character will lead you to the colors and pattern it wants to be. Keep strutting!

Thanks! I’m looking forward to learning more. Maybe I’ll ask for a spinning wheel for my birthday. ;)

It looks so pretty! I love seeing what people do with the tools they buy :)
It looks like you’re getting the hang of it; your yarn is so even!

I’m loving it… the spindle is very nice to work with. I’m going to do another batch tomorrow at our “Stitch & Bitch”, and my friend is going to show me how to ply. After that? Dyeing. :D

Congrats on the homespun! I still havent learnt to yet. I’m kinda afraid of the consequences.

Yeah, that’s what’s scaring me, too. I’ve already asked for a spinning wheel for my birthday. Yikes!
