This time it was Ares’ turn. The poor boy has been scratching himself raw and losing hair around his eyes, and we needed to find out if it was something icky that needed a veterinary treatment. Fortunately, it’s not mites or mange or fleas or anything creepy like that (whew!). Unfortunately, it means we need to figure out what he’s allergic to.

First step, change the food. We’ve been feeding him Innova dog food, which is a wonderful food. The vet recommended switching him to Evo, by the same company. Great food, no grains, just meats and vegetables. That way we can eliminate grains as the cause. Second step, Benadryl for the allergic reactions, so the poor boy can stop scratching. Third step, give him a bath in some soothing shampoo. That’s the hard part for me. Bathing dogs kills my back. But, if it can stop him from scratching a hole through himself, I’m definitely willing to give it a try!

Wish me luck. :)
