Or, what to knit when you’re stuck in a car for eleven hours.
I brought some cotton yarn with me on our trip, figuring I’d knit up a coaster on the way. Just for something to keep my hands busy on the road, you know?
Little did I know that I’d be in the truck for eleven hours in a row. I didn’t knit the whole time, but I did finish three of the four coasters that I wanted to make. The dogs did wonderfully on the ride… they just slept the whole time. Sure wish I could have done that. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but when we got to the pass to go over the mountains, they were doing “avalanche control”… which means “blowing up the snow on the side of the mountain to make the avalanches fall down, then plowing all the snow off the road”. Something I really appreciate, because there’s nothing I want less than having an avalanche fall on top of me when we’re driving past a thousand foot drop-off. However, it entails waiting by the edge of said thousand foot drop-off for nearly an hour while we waited for them to finish.
I would have knitted the last coaster, but it got dark. I couldn’t finish sewing in ends, either, as I dropped my only darning needle under the seat and couldn’t find it. I’m sure I’ll find it some day in the future, completely on accident, with the end of my finger. Oh well, at least I have an excuse to go to the yarn store, right?

I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with all your knitting. I tried it once because I wanted to make a beanie…but quickly found out that I didn’t have a talent for it. Those coasters are pretty sweet lookin’! The picture with your cat in it’s new bed cracked me up.
Thank you!
It was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be, and I started off VERY slowly. I think I knit about 8 garter stitch scarves before I tackled anything remotely complicated.
