File server is up and running, though not yet connected to the network. I decided on kubuntu over ubuntu, because I like KDE instead of GNOME. But that’s just me. Same operating system, different interface.
I need to figure out how to mount a second hard drive in the case. It’s an old Dell case with only one hard drive mount, and I really don’t feel like just letting the drive sit there unmounted. Right now there’s a 200gb drive in it, so that should do for now. I’d like to get at least 500gb… I may have to just opt for a new drive. They’re SO cheap nowadays. Anyway, it’s running.
Hubby’s computer is.. well.. toast. We bought 2 new 500gb drives for it, thinking that the only problem was one of his 250′s died. Well, it looks like the whole SATA channel decided to give up the ghost. Poor computer. Well, he’s been wanting to upgrade for some time now, so he’s eying a new quad-core setup.
The new gigabit switch just came UPS last night, with 2 gigabit ethernet cards for hubby’s computer and the file server. Well, with his computer dying, we won’t need one of them. I’m sure his new motherboard will have gigabit ethernet built in. And of course, I ordered the wrong card for the file server. CHECK to see if there is a teeny little “e” next to the PCI next time I order something for that computer. Yep, PCIe card, no PCIe. I’m debating sending them back or just keeping them for possible use in the future. I did get back on newegg and order the right card for the file server this morning.
Anyway, I think I’ve rambled on long enough about the computer issues. As far as knitting goes, I am ten rows away from completing the Big Bad Baby Blanket. It’s about damn time.
